MS 01 BIRDS OF TIN/ENE"Key Ray"
-"Key
Ray" a postal collaboration initiated by Scott Hudgins
(ENE).
I took Scott's original sounds and processed them into a series
of textural waves, with reoccurring themes and motifs.
Scott then readded his original sounds, a sort of reverse
alchemical process.
I was very pleased with the results and the idea of "keys"
and "locks"
which Scott suggested to comment on the recurring "rooms"
of sound.
The CD is like walking into different rooms in a house,
taking in each rooms' distinctiveness while being fully aware
that you are still surrounded by the same walls.-
Birds Of Tin, May 2001.
...........................................................................
The
very first release on MYSTERY SEA takes the form of an original
collaborative effort between US organic auralscapes creator
Birds Of Tin (Brooke Oates) & multiactivist Ene (Scott
Hudgins)...
Here, they map out an haunted wandering into ever changing
regions of calm looped tones with sporadic bursts of counterpoint
abrasive elements... A slow flow of sounds mysteriously progressing
and mutating with an hallucinatory effect...intuitive dark
drones infused with half-remembered memories sketching an
opiated path to an interzone between our innermost Self &
natural phenomena... a psychogeographic metamorphosis...

MS 02 ULTRASOUND"Encomium"
Main Entry : en·co·mi·um
Pronunciation : en'kO-mE-&m
Function : noun
Inflected Form(s) : plural -mi·ums or en·co·mia/-mE-&/
Etymology : Latin, from Greek enkOmion, from en in + kOmos
revel, celebration
Date : 1589
: glowing and warmly enthusiastic praise.
ENCOMIUM implies enthusiasm and warmth in praising a person
or a thing.
-Ultrasound's
new cd-r is a glowing tribute
to the multidimensional perception of time.
Kirk Laktas (formerly of Stars Of The Lid) and Rfovetz
use live computer-based sampling of their patented guitar
and bass drones
to carry the listener into a state of suspended animated
aural perception.
Recorded between 1996-1998, the release also includes the
music
from a dance perdormance/sound installation by Rfovetz in
Den Haag,
The Netherlands.- Rfovetz, August
2001.
...........................................................................
Ultrasound's
core are Rfovetz & Kirk Laktas.
Together they outline a rippling tapestry of subliminal
& hypnagogic sounds,
one of the most beautiful haunting drone music to be heard
today...
In this they share more than common ground with STARS OF
THE LID
of whom Kirk Laktas has been a former member...
The material featured on .encomium. has been recorded
at various moments between 1996 & 1998...specifically
collected for MYSTERY SEA,
all pieces have carefully been chosen to form a flowing
construction...
Overall, the resulting "Ocean of sound" is warm,
shrouding, deeply immersing,
shaping up a language of new perceptions...
.encomium. unfolds at the pace of quiet glistening
waves,
spreading their "dewdrop-particles" into the listener's
mind, making him reach a state of subdued dazzle...
A drop falls with a slight resonant echo as in a ceremonial
of infinite reflections & overlapping circles, paving
the way for a sharper insight...

03 WILT "White Chrysalis In Blue"
-I
wanted to focus on aquatic activity where by
there would be a symbolism for growth or life.
I found a picture
of a nuclear reactor
where the outer sides of the image
were black and these dark tubes seemed to pierce the center
where a pool of blue water highlighted by white held the
reactor itself.
I imagined this to be a spanning ground for a cocoon,
possibly the birthing of a black hole butterfly.
And thus my opus had a concept.
The sounds represent the birthing on a molecular level,
a white chrysalis in blue.-James P.
Keeler, September 2001.
...........................................................................
WILT
(James P. Keeler's main musical vehicle) is a name
currently on everybody's lips in the field of experimental/dark
ambient noise...
From project to project, sound sources may vary greatly,
moulded by a concept or a prevailing mood, but there's always
some common denominator & unique stamp.
For MYSTERY SEA, WILT has dived into its quietest
realms so far, offering a textured snaking audio-exploration
of low submerged plateaux, a flow of muffled clanks and
ghostly resonances...
.white chrysalis in blue. is the soundtrack to a
desolate laguna under an orange pale light, a dark pool
of decomposed thoughts bathed with silvery-moon reflections,
a path to oblivion...
along this rolling , breathing shapeless sea & deep
below, .white chrysalis in blue. unfurls revealing
subtle minimal evolving tones, composing the colours of
a solemn drowned dream...
